My Work

Here you can see samples of some of my previous work:

Torch Trust

As Communications Manager for this Christian sight loss charity, I was solely responsible for all of their written output. I also produced their weekly national radio show, interviewing people such as actor David Suchet, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, and Green Party Leader Jonathan Bartley.

I now work with Torch Trust on a freelance basis. My work includes producing their 'Reflections' radio show, creating their quarterly newsletter, plus other content creation, proofreading and editing of both digital and print media.

Outrageous Bride

Outrageous Bride is a magazine which focuses on alternative weddings. As the Editor of the magazine since its inception, I was responsible for development of the magazine and have built it into a successful quarterly publication. My work included creation of all communications, content creation, editing, proofreading, social media, web maintenance and marketing. I used the Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress and SEO plugins to a high standard.

The British Geological Survey

As a Project Communications Officer at this large public sector organisation, I wrote press releases, interviews and blog posts aimed at sharing the specialist work of the BGS geologists with a non-science audience.

I also worked on communications for the UK Geos project, a £31 million initiative exploring the world beneath our feet and the potential of new types of energy generation.

Some of my work can be read at the official British Geological Survey blog here.

Voluntary Action South Leicestershire

I worked on this Leicestershire charity’s new website, taking the lead on copywriting, editing and proofreading. I also assisted with testing the user experience, gathering and placing media content and liaising with project managers, department managers and an external web design company.

You can see VASL’s website here.

A Place to Hang Your Cape

I was a Senior Interviewer and Features Writer for this popular superhero and comic book website for several years, travelling to conventions to interview actors such as Billy Boyd and Jonathan Price, as well as comic creators Dead Canary, Rachael Smith and Kate Ashwin.

You can read some of my work for AP2HYC here.

Other Experience

My other previous work includes employment by two local authorities, during which I gained experience in creating accessible school resources for children with sight loss. I also have several years’ experience volunteering with the Riding for the Disabled Association where I assisted children with disabilities to ride and learn general horse care.
